Can we talk about this? Can we talk about all the different people Dean has ever hugged, and what those hugs meant? Can we talk about even though the hugs came forth from the same situation (such as reunion), they still all mean different things? Like how the one with Mary has so many emotions (pain, loss, disbelief that she’s really there, etc.), and the one with Cas stems from worry and probably some guilt as well. Or the different friendships: Benny and Dean’s came initially from mutual benefit, where Dean and Charlie just clicked.
Can we also talk about how half of the ones in this photoset have happened in Season 8? How Dean is learning to express himself ever better, how he’s becoming less scared to show his feelings toward others; which we also see in the reasons of his hugs now? It’s not just reunions anymore or ‘i thought i’d never see you again’. There’s gratitude and love and joy, such a range of emotions compared to a few years ago.
Let’s have a moment of silence for how far Dean’s come regarding personal and emotional development.
